MISSION & PHILOSOPHY

The Congregation of The Ursulines of Mary Immaculate recognises the spirit of service to the sick and suffering, and has made it a mission to serve the community through effective patient care.

Visualising the urgent need for well-trained and professionally-competent nurses for the healthcare system, HFINE was thus opened by The Bandra Holy Family Hospital Society, the trust that also administers the Holy Family Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai.

Established in 2005, HFINE is a minority Christian institution according to the Indian Constitution but accepts students from across the country regardless of caste, creed or religion.

Our faculty believes in promoting the all-round development of student-nurses while adhering to the highest academic and professional standards. We also lay special emphasis on human, moral, social, intellectual and spiritual values necessary for a nurse to act as an effective agent of change in a society that is constantly evolving.

HFINE weaves these objectives into its three-and-a-half-year General Nursing & Midwifery course that is recognised by the Indian Nursing Council, the Maharashtra Nursing Council and the Government of Maharashtra.

Our course is open to female as well as male candidates who meet the criteria stipulated by the council.

Philosophy
We believe a nurse is much more than a professional care-giver. She or he is a compassionate healer, an expert at operating technologically sophisticated medical equipment and a resourceful decision-maker.

We believe nursing is more than a career; it's a vocation. Hence, while emphasising academic excellence, we also inculcate a nurturing attitude that complements theoretical knowledge and practical expertise.

Our student-nurses therefore graduate with a mature sense of judgement and ethical values that go beyond pure clinical competence.

We believe we have a special responsibility to our students as well as to society. We therefore make provisions for all-round development of our students, moulding them into sensitive individuals, responsible citizens as well as thorough professionals.

Objectives
While mentoring tomorrow’s nurses to embrace this vocation, we are also committed to fulfilling certain objectives:
  1. To provide a scientific and comprehensive learning of the theory and practice of nursing that encourages our student-nurses to think and act on their feet intelligently
  2. To develop personal aptitudes and shape an attitude of caring for the sick at all levels of healthcare delivery
  3. To inspire our student-nurses to go above and beyond the call of duty
  4. To inculcate the spirit of team work and cooperation as members of an integrated healthcare system, in preventive, curative and rehabilitative healthcare services
  5. To prepare student-nurses to become effective future leaders and educators
Nursing is an exciting vocation with tremendous potential and broad horizons both in India and abroad. I invite prospective applicants to enroll for our course and wish every candidate a bright and fulfilling career.
